The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation announces that it has summoned the Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to submit two protest notes.
In the first case, a political party accuses the Russian ambassador of "illegal activities which jeopardize the security of the Republic of Moldova" and in the context of this they demand the immediate expulsion of Oleg Ozerov.
The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs asked the Moldovan side to publicly refute these unfounded allegations and was told of the need to respect the obligations under the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, which requires the prevention of any attacks on the person, freedom and dignity of accredited diplomatic agents.
Another protest note refers to the "leak to the Moldovan press of a confidential letter from the Russian Embassy in Chisinau on gas deliveries, which the embassy sent to the Foreign Ministry in Chisinau".
"The Russian side sees this incident as yet another unfriendly step that undermines confidence in Moldovan diplomacy and calls into question the reliability of interaction with Chisinau through diplomatic channels," the Russian MFA statement added.
Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean reacted to the submitted protest notes, noting that the Russian Federation, first of all, must honor its commitments. "It should respect the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, respect the independence and sovereignty of the Republic of Moldova and take its troops home," Dorin Recean said.
