The airspace of the Republic of Moldova is safe, assured the manager of the Chisinau International Airport (CIA) Constantin Vozian. The country’s airspace is partially open, while the corridor to Romania, which is used by aircraft, is safe. In this connection, the Airport’s chief said there are preconditions for a number of low-cost companies to operate flights from Chisinau, IPN reports.

Constantin Vozian noted that even if Russia attacks Odessa Oblast with missiles and drones, the Moldovan airspace is safe.

“The airspace is safe and has been safe since the outbreak of the bloody war in Ukraine. The airspace of the Republic of Moldova is open partially and an aircraft needs seven minutes to leave the Moldovan airspace for Romania. Flights to the East and the North are not operated. Flights are possible only through this air corridor that has been secured since the start,” the Airport’s manager stated in the program “Résumé” on RliveTV channel.

Constantin Vozian said that discussions have been held with representatives of Wizz Air, who expressed their readiness to return to the Moldovan market. The authorities also try to persuade other low-cost companies to operate flights from the Chisinau International Airport.

“There are preconditions for Wizz Air to return and for other low-cost companies to come. Wizz Air is interested in returning to our market. The company Wizz Air announced that it suspended the flights from the Chisinau Airport, but can resume them. Wizz Air and other airlines experience operational issues. Even in Romania, Wizz Air decreased the number of flights. All the airlines face a pressing shortage of crews,” noted Constantin Vozian.

In March 2023, the Hungarian airline Wizz Air suspended all the flights from the Chisinau International Airport, invoking airspace security reasons. As a result of this decision, the number of Moldovans who choose to fly from Iasi has grown by 30%.
