A Moldovan woman aged 28 was stopped at the airport in Chisinau with undeclared €20,000. She intended to fly to Istanbul. The money was identified in her hand baggage as a result of scanning. The case was transmitted to the Customs Service for continuing the investigations. The person faces punishment, IPN reports, quoting the Border Police.
In accordance with the legislation, the equivalent of sums larger than €10,000 must be mandatorily declared. The persons who do not do this face a penalty and confiscation of the undeclared difference.
The employees of the Border Police last year identified ten cases of trafficking in currency during security screening at the Chisinau International Airport. Three Moldovans, three Romanians, four Russians, a citizen of Israel and a citizen of the U.S. were caught with an undeclared total of US$ 319,000, €141,000, £53,000 and 26,600 Russian rubles.
