Moldova witnesses temperatures that occur once in 30 years

Weather forecasters last week recorded temperatures that are witnessed in Moldova in winter once in 30 years. According to the State Hydrometeorology Service, nonhomogeneous weather by temperatures was seen in the country last week, IPN reports.

The average weekly temperature was -5..-6.6 degrees Celsius, being by 3-4.5 degrees Celsius lower than the norm. The highest temperature was +16 degrees Celsius (Codrii, Baltata, December 28). Such temperatures in the period are witnessed once in 30 years. The lowest temperature was -20 degrees Celsius (Camenca, January 3). Such a temperature is recorded once in five years.

Last week, precipitation fell on only 30% of the country’s territory. This didn’t exceed 1-2 mm (10-20% of the weekly norm). Towards the end of the week, the soil froze 13-18 cm deep in southern Moldova and 20-22 cm deep in the northern districts. The winter crops grew slightly only at the beginning of the week. On the other days, they were in vegetative pause.

The multiannual plantations were also in vegetative pause last week. The lowest temperature of the soil at the depth where the winter crops develop roots (3 cm) was -5..-9 degrees Celsius, above the critical level of -15 degrees Celsius.

Next week, daytime temperatures will vary between -3 and +2 degrees Celsius, while nighttime temperatures – between -5 and 0 degrees Celsius. There will be sleet at the beginning of the week.
