The Republic of Moldova decided to withdraw from the Eurovision Song Contest 2025. The announcement was made by the director of the national television channel Moldova 1, Corneliu Durnescu, at a news conference. The national broadcaster Teleradio-Moldova aims to revise the criteria and methodology of the national preselection, IPN reports.

The decision to suspend Moldova’s participation in the music competition was taken following "a detailed analysis of the current situation and of the economic, administrative and artistic challenges". Corneliu Durnescu noted that it was not an easy decision, but it was necessary in the current context.

"This year's national selection highlighted particular challenges, including the diminution of audience interest and the overall quality of the songs and artistic performance. This fact generated a negative perception among specialists and the public, underlining the need for a substantial reform in the national preselection," said the director of the national television channel.

Teleradio-Moldova aims to "revise the selection criteria and methodology in order to encourage a wider participation of talented artists and to ensure more consistent and competitive cultural representation on the international arena," said Corneliu Durnescu.

The 69th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest will take place on May 13-17. The semifinals will be held on May 13 and 15, and the winning country will be designated on May 17. Moldova 1 will broadcast live the two semifinals and the Grand Final.
