Moldova has won one more bronze medal at the World Universiade that is held in Russia’s Kazan. On July 11, 27-year-old freestyle wrestler Piotr Ianulov won bronze in the 84 kg class after beating Serdar Boke of Turkey and Jordan David Steen of Canada.
In quarterfinals, Ianulov lost to Romania’s Gheorghita Stefan 1-3. But he then won against Stephane Marczinski of France and Umidzhon Ismanov.
This is the ninth bronze medal for Moldova at the University Games. Wrestler Maxim Mamulat won silver.
Also today, freestyle wrestlers Anatol Buruian (55 kg) and Vladimir Gotisan (66 kg) were eliminated in the preliminary rounds, while Alexandru Romanov (120 kg) was beaten in quarterfinals.
Weightlifter Gheorghe Cernei still has chances to win a medal. After the snatch event, he has the result of 165 kg in the 85 kg class and ranks third. Another Moldovan weightlifter, Dumitru Captari, comes ninth.
