Moldova has won one more bronze medal at the European Olympic Games held in Baku. Freestyle wrestler Alexandru Chirtoaca climbed on to the winner’s rostrum in the 57 kg class, IPN reports.
Chirtoaca competed directly for the bronze medal, fighting against Islam Islamaj of Albania, after being beaten in the 1/8 finals by Germany’s Marcel Ewald 3-1. As his opponent reached the final of the 57 kg class, Alexandru Chirtoaca continued to compete in the re-qualifying rounds. Chirtoaca defeated Islam Islamaj 4-0.
It is the second medal won by the Moldovan athletes at the first European Olympic Games. Svetlana Saenko also won bronze in women’s wrestling.
