Moldova wins 13th medal at Universiade

The Moldovan delegation won one more medal at the World University Games held in Russia’s Kazan. Sambo wrestler Artiom Nacu won bronze in the 62 kg class, IPN reports.

In the qualifying rounds, Nacu beat Mohamed Tarek Sadfi of Tunisia and Borislav Tsekov of Bulgaria, but lost to Russia’s Ilia Hlybov in the quarterfinals. He then won against Jakub Babiar of Slovakia and Nozimdzhon Olkirov of Tajikistan, securing bronze.

The other two representatives of Moldova in the sambo competition, Sergiu Oslobanu (82 kg) and Natalia Repeshko (68 kg), were eliminated.

Greco-Roman wrestler Maxim Mamulat (60 kg) was close to winning a medal. In the match for the third place, he was beaten by Kazakhstan’s Almat Kebispaev 5-0. His mates Marin Cazac (96 kg) and Igor Besleaga (74 kg) left the competition after the first battles.

In the general medals rankings, Moldova comes 43rd with 11 bronze medals and two silvers. Russia heads the rankings with 137 golds, 68 silvers, and 59 bronzes. The Universiade closes on July 17.
