President Igor Dodon will sign Moldova’s Agreement of Cooperation with the Eurasian Union in Chisinau at the beginning of April. The Head of State informed Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu and Prime Minister Pavel Filip about this in a trilateral meeting on February 21, IPN reports.
In a press briefing after the meeting, Igor Dodon said the Agreement with the Eurasian Union will be signed on April 3 or 4 and this does not run counter to other agreements to which Moldova is a party.
The President stated he familiarized the Speaker and the Premier with his position on the implementation of the Association Agreement with the EU. According to him, there are a number of questions on the issue and if the people or the parliamentary majority asks to terminate this accord, the President will support this initiative.
In the same press briefing, Andrian Candu said he was informed about the President’s intention to sign an Agreement of Cooperation with the Eurasian Union and was issued with a model of the document. This will be examined and statements on the subject will be made later.
However, the Speaker noted that the EU model envisions faster development and consolidation of the state institutions and offers solutions for ensuring justice and enforcement of the law. The health system, social and other systems are well developed by the European model. Andrian Candu said he didn’t see such development in the member states of the Eurasian Union. According to him, Moldova can develop only by coming closer to and integrating into the EU.
