Moldova will participate at the Youth Winter Olympics
Moldova will have a single representative at the first edition of the Youth Winter Olympics that will take place between January 13 and 22, 2012, in Innsbruck, Austria, Info-Prim Neo reports.
17 year old Irina Cozonac will take part in 6 km sprint and 7.5 km pursuit contests. She is coached by Nadejda Bria and is a pupil at the Spiru Haret Lyceum in Chisinau.
Irina is currently in a training camp in Romania. On January 3-7, she will participate in the Harghita Open biathlon contest.
Over 1000 athletes from 63 countries will participate at the Youth Winter Olympics 2012. The competition program includes 7 sports. 63 sets of medals will be up for grabs according to the official site of the Moldovan Olympic Committee.
In 2010, in Singapore, the first Youth Summer Olympics took place. Iulia Leorda obtained the silver medal in women’s wrestling, Daniil Svaresciuc- the bronze medal at boxing and 5 other athletes finished on 5th place.
