The Republic of Moldova will have a national mechanism for imposing international sanctions. The Cabinet approved a bill that stipulates how Moldova will adopt international restrictive measures on its own initiative and how the country will align itself with the restrictive measures instituted by decisions taken by the EU and other international organizations or by unilateral decisions adopted by other states, IPN reports.
Minister of Justice Veronica Mihailov-Moraru said that a special body to adopt internal decisions to put into practice the restrictive measures will be instituted. The Interinstitutional Supervision Council will coordinate the work of the other players involved in this mechanism.
The Council will be led by the Prime Minister and will include the managers of the main public institutions and authorities with legal duties in the related areas. “By adopting the given bill, the national public authorities, in connection with the process of joining the European Union and of the necessity of developing the national protection mechanism, will obtain a legal instrument that will serve as support and orientation point,” stated the minister.
The bill will be debated through the agency of the parliamentary platform and will be consulted with the European Commission before being submitted to Parliament for consideration.
