Moldova will have first doctors with European diplomas in five years

The first doctors with European diplomas, specialized in anesthesiology and reanimatology, will appear in Moldova in five years, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a ceremony held to launch the initiative to introduce the European exam in anesthesiology and reanimatology in Moldova, Minister of Health Andrei Usatyi said the event is a historical one. The post-university training of the residents who specialize in intensive care and anesthesia represents a joint project of Moldova and Germany. “We consider that this program is a first step towards bringing the European standards to Moldova, which means access, quality and the patient’s safety during the examination and treatment. I’m sure that this project will be successful as the anesthesiology and reanimatology services include specialists who do not give up and who can serve as an example for other specialists,” said Andrei Usatyi. Initially, there will be trained 40 doctors during five years. In the end, they will take qualification exams and will be issued with diplomas recognized all over Europe. The certificates will enable them to do internships during 2-3 months in a European state, under a short-term contract, so as to gain experience. Afterward they will return to the country with new skills. Andrei Usatyi voiced hope that this practice will be extended and the doctors of other specialties will also be able to obtain European certificates. “We implement the European standards by adjusting the national legislation and harmonizing the training program,” said the minister, adding German lecturers expressed readiness to work with Moldovan doctors. The program represents a partnership between the Anesthesiology and Reanimatology Society of Moldova and the European Society of Anesthesiology and Reanimatology.
