After January 1, 2020, regardless of the risks related to the transportation of Russian gas through Ukraine, Moldova will be supplied with natural gas and electric power, President Igor Dodon assured after the meeting of the Supreme Security Council, IPN reports.
Moldova purchases 12% of the necessary electricity from Ukraine, 68% from the Kuchurgan Power Plant and the rest is renewable energy. “We were assured that if the Kuchurgan Power Plant is unable to produce the volume of electricity needed by the Republic of Moldova, technical and legal solutions will be employed to get the necessary power from Ukraine or even from Romania,” stated Igor Dodon.
According to him, the national thermoelectric plants have crude oil reserves for 30-50 days and can regenerate electricity and also heat in the case of the municipalities of Chisinau and Balti.
As regards the supply of gas, Igor Dodon said the agreement with the Russian company “Gazprom” envisions two scenarios, one of which refers to the transportation of gas via Ukraine. If Ukraine and Russia will not come to terms, the Russian gas after January 1 next year will reach Moldova through the Trans-Balkan pipeline. In both of the cases, the average selling price of gas for Moldova will be the same – US$172 per 1,000 cubic meters.
