Moldova will be a reconstruction site during next 2-3 years, transport minister
All the roads in Moldova will be rehabilitated in ten years, Minister of Transport and Road Infrastructure Anatol Salaru told the press. Investments of €400 million are needed yearly, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“Moldova does not have this money, but we are making effort to exclude the political element from the tender contests that will be held to purchase materials so as to guarantee a fair selection of the road rehabilitation projects and the potential investors,” said the minister.
Anatol Salaru also said that contracts to the value of €300 million have been signed with the European Investment Bank, the European Commission and the World Bank so far. As many as 1,000 km of road will be repaired during the next 2-3 years. “The country will become a reconstruction site,” he stated.
The Road Fund will make a greater contribution to the rehabilitation and maintenance of roads as it will be augmented as a result of the rise in road taxes. In 2010 the Road Fund rose from 241 to almost 600 million lei.
Moldova has 16,800 km of road. Of them, about 10,000 km are roads of national importance.
