Moldova will ask other countries for support to overcome drought consequences
Moldova has already prepared appeals to the governments of the European countries and not only in what concerns helping Moldova overcome the consequences of this year’s drought, President Vladimir Voronin told a news conference.
He said that all the ambassadors accredited in Moldova, including those headquartered in Bucharest and Kiev will be invited in this respect.
According to the President, the authorities will make all the necessary efforts to maintain the price of bread at the same level. However, the state controls only “Franzeluta” JSC, which covers 40-45% of the demand, the rest of the bread being supplied by other producers, Voronin said.
He said that several consequences of the drought will be possible to solve thanks to the extra resources collected in the budget. The president did not exclude the possibility of amending the budget and stopping several national programmes, so as to face the present situation. Also, the Parliament prepares laws resulted from the occurred situation, he added.
The drought is more serious than the one registered in 1946, and its consequences are not calculated yet, the head of state mentioned, asking the opposition not to politicise at least this issue.
