Moldova requested Ukraine to increase the volume of electric power supplied by it, but without raising tariffs. Moldova now imports 40% of the consumed electricity from Ukraine, Ukrainian Ambassador in Chisinau Serhii Pyrozhkov said in the program “Moldova Live” on the public TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.
According to the diplomat, the possibility of increasing the volume of electricity supplied by Ukraine to Moldova was discussed during a visit paid by a Moldovan delegation headed by Prime Minister Iurie Leanca to Kiev. “Prime Minister Leanca’s visit to Kiev is symbolic as it took place in a difficult period and shows the support offered to Ukraine. The energy problem was also discussed,” said Serhii Pyrozhkov.
The ambassador denied the statements of Russian and Transnistrian officials about a so-called blockade on the part of Ukraine against Russians from Transnistria. He said Ukraine secures its borders, but bans access only to those who cannot explain the purpose of their trips.
The diplomat stated that the events in Ukraine are considered aggression and violation of all the norms. “We have bilateral, friendship agreements with Russia. Russia recognized the territorial integrity of Ukraine. We consider this is expansion and aggression,” said Serhii Pyrozhkov.
He also said that any people chooses its path and nobody has the right to interfere. If the Ukrainian people want to associate themselves with the EU, nobody can impose another opinion on them. Earlier the international community took into account the opinion of Russia and didn’t grant the action plan for joining NATO to Ukraine in 2008.
“That decision affected us. Now Russia wants to prevent us from signing the Association Agreement with the EU. NATO has no obligation towards Ukraine. If we had got the action plan for joining it, Russia would have had another behavior,” stated the ambassador.
Serhii Pyrozhkov added that today Ukraine will draw conclusions and will join the international security systems.
