Moldova Unita considers fielding Valeriu Plesca for Chisinau mayoral race

Valeriu Plesca could be Moldova Unita Party’s candidate for Chisinau Mayor's seat in the local elections on June 5. The party's leader Vladimir Turcan told Info-Prim Neo the decision would be announced next week. “Valeriu Plesca is one of our party’s candidates for the Mayor’s seat. The political council will make a decision, which will be consulted with the members of the parties that merged with Moldova Unita”, Vladimir Turcan said. On March 23, the social-political movement “New Force”, headed by the former Minister of Defense, Valeriu Plesca, and the People’s Republican Party, headed by Nicolae Andronic, announced their merger with Moldova Unita. At the parliamentary elections on November 28, 2010, Valeriu Plesca obtained 0.12% of votes as an independent candidate, the same score as the People’s Republican Party. Moldova Unita polled 0.48%. In the 2007 local elections, the People’s Republican Party failed to make it to the Chisinau Municipal Council, earning only 0.99% of votes. The two other parties were formed later.
