The Moldova Unita (United Moldova) party accuses the authorities of oppressing it. Its president Ana Tcaci told a news conference on Monday that, in the wake of the coming parliamentary elections, the authorities employ administrative resources and the potential of law enforcement entities to oust the opposition parties from the electoral race, Info-Prim Neo reports. “They use the whole arsenal of intimidation means, including tapping phone talks, corrupting activists, firing members of opposition parties, compromising in media, including the Internet,” she has specified. Ana Tcaci says Moldova Unita already feels the authorities' pressing much before the elections. “The quarters of the party are watched by unknown people who film the citizens calling on us, openly and impertinently. We are informed by the party's supporters that our telephones are eavesdropped, that they plan provocations against the party's activists to intimidate them and to make them withdraw from politics,” Ana Tcaci said. “After the party's statements, different people come to our quarters warning us to re-shape our political message, otherwise we're menaced we will suffer severe consequences,” the president of the party added. The party was registered in February 2006, on the basis of the NGOs “Femeia Moldovei” movement. It declares itself a center-wing party with a democratic platform.
