Moldova Unita calls on political parties to public discussions on need to change electoral law

The Moldova Unita party calls on democratic political parties to start public discussions about the need to change the electoral legislation, including the modification of the threshold to enter the parliament from 6% to 4%, Info-Prim Neo reports. The party's leader, Ana Tcaci, told Monday a news conference that raising the electoral threshold to 6%, banning electoral blocs and depriving the people with dual citizenship of the right to run in elections represent an attempt to restrict political pluralism, the democratic processes and create comfortable conditions for several parties. The lack of reaction to the critique of the European and international organizations speaks for the declarative attitude of the Moldovan authorities to follow the democratic way of development of Moldova on its European path, Ana Tcaci says. Moldova Unita's leader proposes to convene a republican-level conference, inviting international experts in electoral legislation, in order to draft a joint position as to the timeliness of raising the electoral threshold in Moldova. The party was registered in 2006, on the basis of the NGO “Femeia Moldovei” (Moldova's Woman). It styles itself as a centrist party with a democratic platform.
