Moldova, UK consider opportunity of facilitating trips

Moldova and the UK are discussing the opportunity of facilitating trips. “There is the possibility of extensively considering the opportunity of facilitating the trips by citizens of both states and of increasing mobility,” Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Eire pan Integration  Natalia Gherman said in a news conference held jointly with British Minister of State for Europe David Lidington, IPN reports.

Natalia Gherman also said that the relations between the two countries are developing in an open and sincere way. The commercial-economic relations were a separate subject for discussion with the British official. Gherman said the Moldovan side would like the British investors to become more actively involved in the national economy, underlining that there is considerable unrealized potential in the commercial-economic relations between the two states. She noted that Moldova’s exports to the UK increased and the upward trend is maintained.

For his part, David Lidington said the bilateral relations between Moldova and the UK are now closer than ever and they will insist on mutually advantageous cooperation in all the areas of interest. He approved of the progress made by the Moldovan authorities in implementing reforms and reasserted the British government’s commitment to support Moldova’s European prospects, including the signing of the Association Agreement with the EU.

The UK is the only EU member state with which Moldova has a positive balance-of-trade. It ranks sixth among the countries to which Moldova exports goods, including software, textiles and agricultural products.

The British minister had been in Moldova in 2010.
