The European Commission will disburse the third tranche of €11.6 million of the money provided by the European Union to Moldova within the Support for the Reform of the Energy Sector Program by this yearend, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Andrian Candu and EU Ambassador Pirkka Tapiola announced in a news conference, IPN reports.
The cost of the program is over €42 million. Andrian Candu said that Moldova fulfilled 80% of the commitments made in the energy sector and thus received the largest part of the money within the support program. The rest of the commitments are being carried out. They are related mainly to the adoption of the Law on Renewable Sources of Energy and the formulation of normative documents for implementing the legislation in the field.
Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola said that Moldova remains the champion of the Eastern Partnership in the area of the energy sector reform as well. The other EaP states so far received only 40-50% of the promised support.
The first tranche of €13 million was transferred to Moldova in 2012, when the support program was launched. The second trance of €11.6 million was disbursed last December. The program encourages the Moldovan authorities to promote the use of energy from renewable sources.
