Over the next three years Moldova will be involved in a health sector reform project and will receive by €100,000 in technical assistance annually. The project will be implemented through the World Health Organization (WHO), Info-Prim Neo reports. “This project will stimulate reforms in the health sector. Its major goal is the provision of services of a high quality for the people,” Minister of Health Andrei Usatyi said in a conference held to launch the project. The Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Dirk Schuebel said that the health sector is one of the main areas on which the European Union focuses. “We want the healthcare situation in Moldova to reach the EU level. This project will be based on other projects that were already started,” said the Ambassador. The EU so far has provided about €60 million in technical assistance for this sector. “I want to assure you that the European Union will continue to support Moldova’s aspiration to develop,” he stated. WHO Representative in Moldova Jarno Habicht said the initiative to launch such a project appeared several years ago and the World Health Organization considered a lot how to help the countries to develop their health sectors. “Moldova is the only country in Europe that benefits from support within this project. I hope that this initiative will not be the last as many things depend on healthcare,” he stressed. The Supporting Policy Dialogue on National Health Policies, Strategies and Plans in Selected Countries Worldwide Project is implemented in Moldova, Vietnam and five African states. The financing totals over €6 million.
