Moldova to open embassy in Kazakhstan

Moldova will have a new diplomatic mission, with an embassy to be opened in Astana, Kazakhstan. This was decided by the Government on the proposal of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“Kazakhstan represents a regional power with significant economic and commercial potential, with vast energy resources and an extensive community of Moldovans. We want to strengthen this relationship and be able to better represent the interests of our country in Central Asia in general, and in Kazakhstan in particular”, said Mihai Popșoi, Deputy Prime Minister/Minister of Foreign Affairs.

According to the MFA, Kazakhstan is a large market and a complex supplier of raw materials and energy resources. Moldova can exploit Kazakhstan’s import potential, while attracting investments from private companies from this country.

“The opening of the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in the Republic of Kazakhstan will contribute to capitalizing on the potential of economic, commercial and investment cooperation with this country. The mission will also facilitate a more dynamic dialogue at the political level, support cooperation within international organizations and open new opportunities for investment. At the same time, the embassy will offer support to the Moldovan community in Kazakhstan, which includes over 20 thousand people”, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

The opening of an embassy in Astana is in line with Moldova’s effort to enlarge its diplomatic and consular network and is included in the 2025-2027 National Development Plan. At present, the Moldovan diplomatic mission to Russia has a concurrent accreditation for Kazakhstan.
