The development of economy and the reformation of the state institutions, especially the justice and police, represent the key to success on the path to European integration and the Moldovans can learn from Georgia’s experience in this respect, President Nicolae Timofti said in a meeting with his Georgian counterpart Mikheil Saakashvili, who had been in Chisinau on a visit, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from the presidential press service, Nicolae Timofti underlined the importance of Moldova and Georgia, which are EaP member states, joining the European integration efforts.

Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili expressed his confidence that the cooperation potential between Moldova and Georgia will be realized. “Moldova’s future is in the EU. The Moldovan young people I met in Chisinau convinced me of this,” he stated.

Prime Minister Iurie Leanca also had a meeting with Mikheil Saakashvili. According to a communiqué from the Government, the Premier informed the Georgian President about the reforms done by the Government in justice, police and education. “It is not an easy exercise. It is important to achieve the Government’s priorities for the first 100 days and to make changes that will help us sign the Association Agreement with the EU,” stated Iurie Leanca.

Mikheil Saakashvili said that the problems experienced by Moldova and Georgia as well as their aspirations are similar. “We also implemented reforms in the police and a number of state institutions. It is important to eliminate corruption, but this will not happen in the immediate future, but in several years, as the reforms take time,” he stated.

Mikheil Saakashvili came to Moldova to take part in the third European People’s Party Summit of the EaP heads of state and government that was held in Chisinau on July 11.
