The administration of the European Taekwondo Union (ETU) considers that Moldova is ready to host the European Taekwondo WTF Championships Under 21 (Olympic version). “We are satisfied with what we saw here, as regards the infrastructure. We will have a powerful championship, while Moldova now has to prepare its athletes to win medals as well,” president of the European Taekwondo Union Athanasios Pragalos told a news conference on February 22. The National Taekwondo WTF Federation will spend approximately 3 million lei on organizing the event. Another 500,000 lei will be allocated by the Ministry of Youth and Sport. The competition will take place at the Polyvalent Hall in Chisinau on March 18-21. “We will have athletes in each weight class and hope we will gladden our supporters with very good results,” said Igor Iuzefovici, president of the National Taekwondo WTF Federation of Moldova. On the occasion of the European Championships, the Assembly of the European Taekwondo Union will be held in Chisinau. “About 400 officials will come to Moldova, besides sportsmen from 42 countries,” said ETU secretary general Gerrit Eissink. The ETU officials said that Moldova can become a training center for sportspersons from the Balkans in the near future. Athanasios Pragalos and Igor Iuzefovici discussed the possibility of constructing a sports building in our country.
