Moldova to host first FIBA European Championship for Small Countries

The Republic of Moldova won the right to host the FIBA European Championship for Small Countries. The final tournament will take place at the Futsal Arena FMF in Ciorescu village of Chisinau municipality next July, IPN reports.

“There were five applicant countries, but I think we were the most convincing. We spoke about Moldova as about a small country that has what to be proud of. We will do our best to win this championship that will be hosted by Moldova for the first time,” the president of the Moldovan Basketball Federation Octavian Vucol stated for a TV channel.

Seven national squads, of Cyprus, Gibraltar, Malta, Andorra, San Marino, Azerbaijan and Island, will take part in the competition in Moldova. The teams will be divided into two groups. The draw for the group phase will be held in the German town Freising on January 22.
