Moldova to host EUREF symposium
The 2011 symposium of the Regional Reference Frame Sub-Commission for Europe (EUREF) which is the sub-commission of the International Association of Geodesy (IAG), will take place in Moldova during May 25-28. The Government of Moldova decided to allocate 227,300 lei for the organization of the event, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In 1987, EUREF initiated a series of activities aimed at establishing a unified geodetic datum (ETRS89) and a consistent network of reference stations throughout Europe. Moldova is a member of EUREF through the Agency for Land Relations and Cadastre.
The aims of the symposium are to establish and maintain the ETRS89 and the European Vertical Reference System (EVRS), implement GPS technologies in transport and communications, aviation, natural resource management and emergencies, promote the exchange of knowledge and experience in cartography and geodesy, including in the border area.
Over 140 delegates coming from different countries will be taking part in the symposium.
