Parliament ratified the €10 million grant agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for modernizing the Soroca-Balti water supply network and extending it to the districts of Drochia, Floresti, Rascani, Sangerei, and Telenesti, IPN reports.
The Soroca-Balti aqueduct was built in the 1980s. According to Minister of Environment Valeriu Munteanu, this is in a bad state of repair. “By this project, we will strengthen the capacity of the regional water company Aqua Nord that is being now created. It is an important project to regionalize the water supply services. The implementation of this project will ensure high-quality water for over 400,000 residents in northern Moldova,” he stated.
The investment grant of €10 million is the third and last component of the €30 million package for the North Moldova Water Project that is equally financed by the EBRD and the European Investment Bank.
