The Republic of Moldova will file an appeal against the jury's decisions that led to the downgrading of Marin Robu in the weightlifting event on August 9 at the Paris Olympics, IPN reports.
The Ministry of Education and Research will represent the interests of the Republic of Moldova before international sports institutions, including the Court of Arbitration for Sport in Lausanne, Switzerland.
"We consider that the Republic of Moldova was unjustifiably deprived of Marin Robu's medal and we want to restore justice," Minister Dan Perciun said at the Cabinet’s meeting.
The Cabinet approved the allocation of 1.8 million lei from the reserve fund for covering court costs and order related costs.
At the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Marin Robu competed in the up to 89 kg weight category in weightlifting. The jury's verdict allowed another athlete to surpass Marin Robu in the final ranking, unjustly depriving him of the third place and the bronze medal, respectively.
