Moldova to apply new methods to protect farmland

The Government of Moldova will allocate money for ensuring the efficient functioning of the Antihail Service, acting Prime Minister Vlad Filat said, stressing that new methods of securing the farmland will be applied for the purpose, IPN reports.

The Antihail Service owns about 6,000 rockets. “The necessary number of rockets varies from year to year. The Antihail Service has the necessary equipment and we will continue to allocate resources to ensure its functionality,” Vlad Filat told the press.

He also said that the next step is to apply more intelligent technologies, including using nets for protecting the multi-annual plantations and cultivating crops resistant to hail in risk areas. Acting Minister of Agriculture Vasile Bumacov encouraged this proposal.

According to Ion Garaba, director of the Special Service for Active Influences on Hydrometeorological Processes that is known as the Antihail Service, every rocket launching unit needs at least 70 rockets a year. This year, Moldova has a deficit of over 200 antihail rockets.

The antihail units in Moldova protect about 2 million hectares of farmland.
