Moldova takes over presidency of ODED-GUAM

On January 1, 2018, the Republic a Moldova took over the presidency of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development GUAM (ODED-GUAM) and will hold it until January 1, 2019. According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Moldova set a series of priorities that will guide the Moldovan authorities in their activity in the course of this year, IPN reports.

One of the priorities is to ensure the functioning of the GUAM Free Economic Zone and transform GUAM into a platform favorable to investment. Sector interaction will be fostered in such areas as economy, transport, energy, energy security, tourism and internal affairs. Another priority is to realize the existing transport and transit potential of GUAM by supporting the responsible working group and by ensuring interaction between different bodies in the region.

Moldova also aims to take measures to implement the GUAM transport corridor development concept, to work out the relevant plan of action and to improve the relations of cooperation and exchange of information.

The Organization for Democracy and Economic Development GUAM was founded during the first Summit of GUAM Heads of State in Kyiv on May 23, 2006, by the Presidents of Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, and Moldova.
