Moldova slide to 96th spot in FIFA rankings

With no friendly or official matches played at the end of 2009 and the start of 2010, Moldova's national football squad dropped two spots in the world rankings released by the International Football Federation (FIFA) on February 3, Info-Prim Neo reports. With 338 points scored, Moldova now rank 96th, it is said on the official website of the Moldovan Football Federation. Spain continue to head the FIFA rankings, followed by Brazil and the Netherlands. Significant climbers were Egypt, after wining the African Cup of Nations, up 14 places to 10th, Malawi, up 17 to 82nd, Gambia up 18 to 98th, Yemen, up 25 to 105th, Tajikistan, up 17 to 148th, and Dominica, up 15 to 182nd. Biggest droppers were Oman down 14 spots to 93rd, Guinea, down 17 to 90th, Indonesia, down 16 to 136th, Burundi, down 21 to 147th, and Nicaragua, down 29 to 162nd. On March 3, Moldova will play the first friendly match this year, against Kazakhstan. Moldova's opponents in the 2012 European Championship qualifiers will become known on February 7.
