The Republic of Moldova signed today, June 26, during the Official Reunion of the EU – Moldova Cooperation Council in Bruxelles, the Common Airspace Treaty. Also today, EU and Moldova signed the agreement on Protected Geographic Indications for Agricultural Farm Products and Foodstuffs, reports Info-Prim Neo, citing a communiqué from the Government. Prime Minister Vlad Filat said that the signing of these agreements marks the end of two, important for Moldova, negotiation processes; it symbolizes the beginning of a bilateral collaboration with the EU, which may well benefit the citizens of our country. According to the PM, the signing of the Common Airspace Treaty between Moldova and the EU is important for our airline companies that fly to the EU, because the restrictions regarding destinations, capacity and number of flights, will be withdrawn. Hence, they will have access to a market with a population of about 500 million people. “The signing of this agreement constitutes an important element in Moldova’s integration to the EU flight market, the learning of high standards of security in aeronautics, as well as the liberalization of services, which will ultimately convert into net benefits for passengers to and from Moldova”, the PM mentioned. When referring to the agreement on Protected Geographic Indications for Agricultural Farm Products and Foodstuffs between Moldova and the EU, Vlad Filat said that it reflects the convergence of Moldova and EU’s points of view on quality, consumer protection and intellectual property. “This Agreement aims at promoting and protecting quality products, which does not only benefit the agricultural sectors of the EU and Moldova, but the consumers too. It’s signing and implementation will bring a substantial contribution into realizing the provisions of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement between Moldova and the EU”, mentioned Vlad Filat. Denmark’s Minister of External Affairs Villy Søvndal mentioned that the signing of these Agreements is a symbol of Moldo-EU collaboration in all fields. Meanwhile, the official appreciated Moldovan authorities’ efforts in moving the EU-Moldova dialogue forward; Søvndal is convinced that Agreements will benefit the citizens of Moldova, as well as give an impulse for bilateral relations in the respective fields. VP of the European Commission Siim Kallas stated that Moldova’s adherence to the common EU airspace will benefit both the passengers and the bussiness sector, along with helping improve air trasportation. Today, June 26, Bruxelles hosts the 14th Official Reunion of the EU – Moldova Cooperation Council, which is meant to discuss several fields of collaboration for both parties.
