Moldova signs lending agreement with Romania

The agreement on the provision of a loan of €150 million between Romania and Moldova was signed in Chisinau on October 7, IPN reports.

Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet said the neighboring country lends the money for covering the current budget deficit in Moldova. “I’m personally satisfied that we had a constructive dialogue. We managed to swiftly overcome particular fears and speculations about the signing of this accord. I thank the Government of Romania for offering assistance for things in Moldova to develop positively,” he stated.

Romanian Minister of Public Finance Eugen Orlando Teodorovici said it is an important support provided by his country. The loan is offered in very advantageous conditions and will help Moldova overcome the difficulties. Moldova can further count on Romania’s support as they want Moldova to cover the path to the EU the same way as Romania did earlier.

In the joint meeting of the Cabinets of Romania and Moldova on September 22, the Government of Romania decided to offer Moldova a loan of €150 million repayable in five years, at an interest rate of 1.5%.
