Moldova, Russia extend Friendship and Cooperation Treaty for another 10 years

The Friendship and Cooperation Treaty between Moldova and Russia was extended for another ten years. The document was signed by Foreign Minister Iurie Leanca and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in Chisinau on November 22, Info-Prim Neo reports. Iurie Leanca said the meeting with Sergey Lavrov was held in a constructive and friendly atmosphere. “The fact that the meeting took place in the period when Moldova and Russia mark ten years of the signing of the Friendship and Cooperation Treaty, which laid down the main principles for the joint actions in the political, economic, scientific, humanitarian and other spheres, is symbolical,” said the minister. Sergey Lavrov said the Moldovan-Russian intergovernmental and economic partnership became more solid after Moldova and Russia signed the Friendship and Cooperation Treaty 10 years ago. More prospects appeared in the field of trade after the Agreement on the Free Trade Area between Moldova and Russia was signed. The two officials also signed an agreement on archiving, which is aimed at strengthening the relations in this field and improving work with archive documents, especially those that concern foreign policy. There was also signed a plan of consultations for 2012. Sergey Lavrov has paid a visit to Chisinau at the invitation of his Moldovan counterpart Iurie Leanca. He had meetings with Acting President Marian Lupu and Prime Minister Vlad Filat.
