Moldova, Romania to cooperate in energy regulation

The National Energy Regulatory Agency of Moldova (ANRE) and the Romanian Energy Regulatory Authority have signed an agreement of cooperation. According to the managers of the two institutions, the accord lays the foundations of an exchange of experience, information and data between the sides, IPN reports.

In a news conference, ANRE director Sergiu Ciobanu said the national authority has longed for the cooperation with the similar authority of Romania to be intensified so that the signed agreement is a historical one. Given that Moldova is accelerating its pace on the path to European integration, a new regulatory mechanism and new experience are needed.

“The Romanian colleagues are ready to share the experience of Romania as a member of the EU and of the Energy Community Treaty. They will help us amend the bills needed for implementing the Third Energy Package. We will be able to learn from good European experience, given the structure of the Romanian market and the sources for supplying electricity and gas. I consider that today is a historical day for our institutions,” stated Sergiu Ciobanu.

The president of the Romanian Energy Regulatory Authority Niculae Havrilet said the end-users are the basic element of the Third Energy Package. They must be protected from abuses and be safely supplied with electric power and natural gas. “Through this accord, we will share our experience in implementing this package with Moldova’s ANRE,” stated the Romanian official, who is in Chisinau on a working visit.
