The Joint Commission for European Integration of the Parliaments of Moldova and Romania adopted a statement in support of Moldova’s efforts on the path to European integration. The statement was signed by the commission’s co-chairpersons Ana Gutu and Florin Constantinescu, IPN reports.
After the signing of the statement, Florin Constantinescu, who is the vice president of the Romanian Senate, said that his country will continue to support the European integration of Moldova both at internal level, by technical assistance, and at foreign level, in the bilateral and multilateral dialogue with the EU partners and the European institutions.
The Romanian co-chairman said that the Vilnius EaP Summit of November 28-29 is a very important event where Moldova will get the go-ahead to sign the Association Agreement as well as the Free Trade and Visa Liberalization Agreements with the EU in the nearest future.
According to him, Romania will support Moldova in achieving its most important objective after the Vilnius Summit, namely to sign the initialed documents in 2014, during the current mandate of the European Commission and the European Parliament, and of the Government and Parliament of Moldova.
The senator also said that there were skeptics about the country’s integration into the EU in Romania in 2003, but this skepticism was overcome. Romania will help Moldova to access European funds and to adjust its legislation.
Ana Gutu, head of the Moldovan Parliament’s commission on foreign policy and European integration, told the press that the Joint Commission discussed a number of problems that can be solved in concert, including concerning the economic cooperation, the energy security, the supporting of students and ethnic minorities. Romania supports Moldova by the provided assistance and, especially, by the community acquis.
The Joint Commission for European Integration of the Parliaments of Moldova and Romania held its third meeting in Chisinau on November 5-6.
The program of the Romanian delegation’s visit included a series of meeting with high-ranking officials of Moldovan institutions, including Head of Parliament Igor Corman.
