A number of agreements on broadcasting, food safety and cooperation in justice were signed in the second session of the Moldovan – Romanian intergovernmental commission held in Chisinau on March 31. The event was attended by Romanian Foreign Minister Titus Corlatean, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from the Government, Prime Minister Iurie Leanca and Titus Corlatean in a meeting conferred on the relations between the two states, Moldova’s European agenda and the developments in the region. They also discussed projects to interconnect the energy systems and to build bridges over the Prut River and other projects with important social and economic impact on the people of both of the countries.

Head of Parliament Igor Corman also had a meeting with Titus Corlatean. He approved of the acceleration of the technical procedures for signing the Association Agreement with the EU, while the Romanian official said that his country aims to be the first EU member state that will ratify the accord.

After the commission’s session, Titus Corlatean told the journalists that the Moldovan authorities enjoy political support, but must make effort to profoundly reform the state institutions. Moldova managed to adjust about 80% of its legislation to the EU’s. Furthermore, it’s easier for it to follow the path to European integration as Romania provides it with all the necessary texts, translated into Romanian.

Moldovan Foreign Minister Natalia Gherman said the meeting of the intergovernmental commission was opportune now that Moldova sets its European agenda objectives. She voiced hope that besides ensuring experience exchange, the commission will also help communicate the benefits of the association with the EU to the people.
