Moldova requests Romania to ratify Defense Cooperation Agreement as soon as possible

Moldova called on Romania to ratify the bilateral Defense Cooperation Agreement as quickly as possible. The subject was discussed in a meeting of the joint commission for European integration between the Parliament of Moldova and the Parliament of Romania, IPN reports.

MP Ana Gutu, who heads the Moldovan Parliament’s commission on foreign policy and European integration, said that this accord was ratified by the legislative body of Moldova last year, together with the Border Management Treaty. It is a standard agreement that allows performing joint military drills and ensures financial management, experience exchange and closer cooperation between the national armies. Moldova has signed such agreements with Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, the Baltic countries and other states.

Ionel Palar, quaestor of the Chamber of Deputies, said that he will see at what stage this accord is in the Parliament of Romania, which has two chambers – the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies. “We will establish in what chamber this draft is and will ratify it with maximum celerity,” he stated.

In the same meeting, the sides discussed the possibility of signing a reciprocity agreement that would allow retransmitting five Moldovan TV channels in Romania and vice versa.
