Moldova remains firm on its path to EU, counts on Romania’s support

The President of Moldova Nicolae Timofti, after the meeting with his Romanian counterpart Klaus Iohannis in Chisinau, said that Moldova remains firm on its path to integration into the EU and counts on Romania’s support in this process. He noted that the Romanian head of state’s visit to Moldova is important and strengthens the special relations between the two states, IPN reports.

Nicolae Timofti invited more Romanian investments to all the areas of activity, including in broadcasting. He thanked the Romanian authorities for the support provided to Moldova.

Klaus Iohannis said he waited for this visit in order to transmit a powerful signal of support. Romania has high hopes of Moldova’s European integration efforts and will make everything possible to help Moldova make progress in this process.

The Romanian head of state added that he discussed the benefits of the European integration with his Moldovan counterpart, noting that this will offer Moldova a prosperous and safe future. If the Moldovan voters will really want reforms and a new political class, their wish will influence the politicians.

The two officials also discussed the situation in Ukraine. Nicolae Timofti stated that Moldova considers the conflict should be resolved by peaceful ways, by preserving the country’s integrity and sovereignty. Klaus Iohannis said Romania is seen as an anchor of safety in the region and it wants to help the neighboring countries – Moldova and Ukraine – to come closer to the EU.

Klaus Iohannis is in Moldova on a two-day visit. He will also have meetings with the political leaders Vlad Filat, Marian Lupu and Mihai Ghimpu.
