Moldova will levy a consular tax of €80 for long-stay visas provided to Polish citizens. Parliament passed a bill whereby its initiative to abolish the consular tax adopted several years ago is abrogated, IPN reports.
Anatol Vangheli, secretary of state at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, said in Parliament that this initiative is a response to Poland’s decision to introduce a consular tax for long-stay visas for Moldovans. Several years ago, Poland unilaterally decided to eliminate the given tax. Moldova took a similar decision on the basis of reciprocity.
This year Poland has informed about the reintroduction of the tax of €60 for long-stay visas for Moldovan citizens. Consequently, Moldova will also abrogate the decision to annul the consular tax for long-stay visas issued to Polish people and will collect a tax of €80.
When asked by MPs, Anatol Vangheli said such a decision will not affect the relations between the two states as diplomacy is governed by the principle of reciprocity and does not allow selective behavior towards one country or another.
