Moldova received over 100,000 Moderna vaccine doses

The third consignment of doses of Spikevax vaccine produced by Moderna was shipped to Moldova. The doses were donated through the COVAX Facility, IPN reports. The lot of 100,800 vaccine doses was received by the National Public Health Agency and will be distributed to national vaccination centers.

Last year, the Republic of Moldova received 280,800 Spikevax vaccine doses. The first consignment, of 50,400 doses, donated through COVAX, was delivered to the country at the end of last November, while the third lot, of 230,400 doses, which was offered free by France through COVAX, got to Moldova at the end of last December.

The Spikevax vaccine contains a molecule called messenger RNA (mRNA) with instructions for producing a protein from SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. Spikevax does not contain the virus itself and cannot cause COVID-19.

In Moldova, Spikevax is administered to persons aged 18 years and older as a course of two doses administered at an interval of 28 days from each other.

To get a vaccine against COVID-19, the persons should go to the family doctor or to any national vaccination center.
