Moldova ratifies WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement

Moldova became the 84th member of the World Trade Organization (WTO) that ratified the Trade Facilitation Agreement. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Octavian Calmac presented the instrument of ratification of the accord by Moldova to the WTO Director General Roberto Azevêdo, IPN reports.

According to the Ministry of Economy, the Trade Facilitation Agreement is the first multilateral agreement negotiated within the WTO that will offer Moldova new opportunities of access to international markets and will optimize the transfrontier flow of goods by ensuring a higher level of safety of the business sector by implementing measures to reduce bureaucracy and corruption.

During a bilateral discussion, Roberto Azevêdo said the accord offers new possibilities of accessing assistance and technical support funds for developing and modernizing infrastructure, training customs functionaries and simplifying the customs transit procedures for different tariff products.

Octavian Calmac noted that the ratification by Moldova of the Trade Facilitation Agreement and the active involvement in the process of implementing the Bali and Nairobi Ministerial Declarations are a clear signal for all the development partners concerning the commitments undertaken by the Moldovan authorities.
