Moldova has strengthened its position in the international Internet connection speed rankings. According to Netindex, Moldova ranks sixth in the world by the download speed. On March 31, this year, Moldova ranked 16th by the average Internet connection speed at global level, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, by this indicator the country climbed ten spots in only seven months. Romania ranks ninth, Russia – 13th, while Ukraine –16th.

The ICT Ministry is implementing the national strategy for developing the information society “Digital Moldova 2020”. Under this strategy, by at least one fiber optic network point will be set up in every settlement with a mayor’s office by 2020. End-users will enjoy a broadband Internet connection speed of at least 30 Mbps.
