The Moldovan athletes won the largest number of medals at the World Powerlifting Championship that was held in Chisinau for the first time. Athletes from Ukraine and Ireland also climbed on to the winners’ rostrum, IPN reports.
The competition was held at “Ginta Latina” Theater and brought together about 200 participants from 14 countries. “We can ask organizing the European or world powerlifting championships in Moldova next year or the next years as well,” said the president of the Moldovan Powerlifting Federation Boris Volosatyi, noting that this year the championship was held in the best way possible.
Besides the main categories of competitors, the tournament also involved juniors, children and women. “I came to this championship with no fear,” said Valentina Bulhac aged 14.
Powerlifting is a strength sport that consists of three attempts at maximal weight on three lifts.
