The selection committee of the Republic of Moldova for the Academy Awards fielded the film TUNETE (Thunders) in the Best International Feature Film category. The decision was taken by the 17 committee members who came together for a meeting on September 25, IPN reports.

It should be noted that the selection this year involved four Moldovan movies: “Power of Probability” directed by Ivan Nanyev; “Ogma” directed by Mihai Țărnă; “Varvara” directed by Anatol Durbală, and “Thunders” directed by Ioane Bobeica. The latter obtained a maximum score and will be proposed for the Best International Feature Film for the Oscars 2023, Virgiliu Mărgineanu, president of the Filmmakers Union of Moldova, has told IPN.

The 96th Academy Awards will be held at Los Angeles’s Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood on March 10, 2024. The nominations will be announced on January 23, 2024.
