Moldova football squad has begun preparations for two 2010 World Cup qualifying matches – on September 5 against Luxembourg and on September 9 against Greece. Vitalie Bordian from Metalist Harkov is injured, while Sergey Covalciuc (Spartak Moscow), Stanislav Ivanov (Krylia Sovetov) and Sergiu Dadu (Alania Vladikavkaz) refused the call-up for reasons unrevealed. Moldova won a single point in six qualifiers and place the last in their group.
