Moldova Platform will keep an eye on government in terms of country’s neutrality

The Moldova Platform urges the people to be very vigilant and to follow very closely all the statements and actions of the government regarding the principle of neutrality. The leader of the Platform Irina Vlah said the authorities didn’t want to hear the people’s position on the neutrality status and this entails risks linked to dangerous scenarios for the Republic of Moldova and its citizens.

“If those who are at the forefront of Moldova’s foreign policy have doubts about neutrality, I decided that it is logical to invite the country’s leadership to find out what the people’s opinion is on this issue. Moreover, no additional money from the state budget will be spent for the purpose as the President has already proposed holding a referendum simultaneously with the presidential election. All that is required of the decision-makers is to agree to put this subject up for the referendum,” Irina Vlah stated in a press briefing at IPN.

The leader of the Moldova Platform noted that, in accordance with the principles of neutrality, the country should not get involved in the conflict between other states and in peacetime should not join military alliances. “Why don’t you, those from the government, want to ask the people if they want this or want to be drawn into different political-military adventures? Why do you think you have the right to decide for the people on such an important issue?” asked Irina Vlah.

The leader of the Moldova Platform called on the citizens to be watchful. “The Moldova Platform asks you to be very vigilant and to follow very closely all the government statements and actions in this regard. In turn, we undertake to monitor and report any government’s deviations from the principle of neutrality. We will not allow the Republic of Moldova to be engaged in scenarios that run counter to the interests of the country and its citizens. But the referendum on neutrality will take place, now or later, because this very important issue should be decided by the people, not by Maia Sandu and her party!” concluded Irina Vlah.
