The Technical University of Moldova will soon launch the project “Moldovan Satellite” within which microsatellites will be put into orbit. In a meeting with Prime Minister Pavel Filip, the University’s administration said the project was 80% implemented, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the Government.
According to the authors, this is an attractive project for the students of the Technical University and is important for the national economy, in particular for monitoring and preventing floods on the Nistru and Prut Rivers. In this connection, the University’s administration reminded about the project to exempt the specialized equipment for managing satellites from VAT and customs duties, which was presented in 2015 and hasn’t been yet examined.
The Premier said that the Government will support the University’s projects aimed at ensuring a new economic growth model in Moldova. For his part, the University’s rector Viorel Bostan stated that this process necessitates financial support, but the current mechanism for allocating financial resources from the state budget is inefficient and non-transparent.
The sides agreed to implement projects to launch new specialties at the Technical University of Moldova, such as software engineering, robotic systems and mechatronics. The Government will also instruct the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance to immediately work out a new equitable, efficient and transparent model for the allocation of state budget money.
Pavel Filip noted that the Technical University is an important institution for the Republic of Moldova, which aims to ensure changes by sustainable development. The University centers on intellectual creativity, which plays an essential role in switching over to a new model of society.
