Moldova holds 86th position in the ranking of the most economically competitive countries, advancing 3 positions compared with 2005, according to the ranking made by World Economic Forum among 125 countries. Switzerland is in the top of the ranking, followed by Finland and Sweden, whilst the leader of last year’s ranking, the USA, goes down on the 6th place because of the macroeconomic perspectives which threaten development perspectives. Among the countries which adhered to the European Union in 2004, the best position is held by Estonia, which is ranked 25th, followed by Czech Republic – 29th, Slovenia – 33rd and Latvia – 36th. Romania is placed on the 68th position, one position lower thanlast years’. Bulgaria is 72nd this year, compared with 61st position of the last year. The Russian Federation holds the 62nd position, by 9 positions down compared with the last year. Ukraine is ranked 78th, going down by 10 positions. Of the CIS member states, the best ranked is Kazakhstan, 56th, although in the last year it placed 51st. The poorest evolution belongs to Kyrgyzstan, 107th, compared with 104th in 2005. The report of the World Economic Forum was made on the grounds of the available economic data and of an opinion poll, which included 11000 participants from those 125 countries included in the ranking. The Swiss-based World Economic Forum is an international independent, non-profit organization, founded in 1971 in Geneva. The organization aims at intermediating dialogue between political leaders and to settle a program for the improvement of the world economic state of affairs.
